Ohio Pest Control, in conjunction with the city of Portsmouth, will conduct mosquito spraying from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. Monday and Tuesday in the Portsmouth area. If inclement weather prevents spraying, the spraying will be done at the same time Aug. 13 and 14.
Anyone with respiratory problems should consider closing windows and shutting off any window-unit air conditioners until the fog has dissipated.

A free jumping demo show, hosted by Myhio Haven Horse Farm, will be from 10:30 a.m. to noon Tuesday at the Scioto County Fair. Trainers, Janine Hansing and Emily Uldrich, along with some of their students and friends, will demonstrate show jumping and offer help to 4-H riders and horses.
DOE conducts aerial survey
The U.S. Department of Energy plans to conduct a site-wide aerial radiological survey of Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant and the immediate surrounding area during daylight hours Tuesday and Wednesday, pending favorable weather conditions. The public may notice a low-flying helicopter in the area during the survey.
The helicopter is part of the department's Aerial Measuring System, and carries highly sophisticated detection systems providing real-time measurements used to update the site-wide radiological survey. AMS conducts regularly scheduled surveys to create a baseline of radiological data.
The department performs aerial surveys at its sites across the country about every five years. The survey records precise data to support the environmental monitoring program. The last aerial radiological survey of the plant was conducted in 1993.
