A 6-week-old Portsmouth baby remains in critical condition and her father has been charged in the injuries, in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Mylee Ferguson is listed in critical condition at Medical University of South Carolina, after being transported there Sunday afternoon.

Details are sketchy surrounding the case, in which the baby's father, Miles Lee Ferguson, 24, of Portsmouth, is charged with assault and battery with intent to kill.

According to a spokesperson with the Horry County, S.C. Police Department, Ferguson remains incarcerated in the J. Reuben Long Detention Center on the original charge.

Police responded to Lands End Boulevard, located in unincorporated Horry County between Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach, at about 1 p.m. Sunday and found the injured baby.

The Horry County police are not releasing details as to the reason for the charges, or on what occurred to prompt the charges.

Calls to public information officer Sgt. Bob Carr went unreturned.
