James Paul Hatfield, 66, of West Portsmouth, went to be with his Savior Jesus Christ Monday, July 30, 2007, at 1:50 a.m. after a long battle with cancer.

James “Jim” was born Nov. 24, 1940, in Portsmouth, to the late Aaron E. and Dorothy Dunham Hatfield. He was a retired ironworker from Dayton Walther Corp. Local Union 3035, a member of Mount Zion Apostolic Church, active in E.M.S. and a firefighter, union steward, baseball, basketball, and softball coach, president of Little League, and was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Jim was preceded in death by his two brothers, Joseph “Soney” Hatfield and Aaron “Buddy” Hatfield; and one sister, Phyllis Sue Brown.

Jim is survived by his wife of 35 years, Sharon Adams Hatfield, whom he married Oct. 22, 1972, in West Portsmouth, by the late Rev. Charles Scaff; father of three children, Shane Edward (Maria) Hatfield, of Friendship, Michael Joseph Hatfield, of West Portsmouth, and Tami Kay Hatfield, of Dublin; other children, Jimmy (Martina) Hatfield Jr., Jeffrey (Marsha) Hatfield, George Hatfield, Rena Hatfield, Paula Hatfield and Rhonda (Merill) Clay; two sisters, Violet Stevens and Carolyn Hatfield; grandchildren, Brandon and Haley Lumpkins, Jacob Dalton and Emily Taylor, Tori and Taylor Hatfield, Jeremy Hammon and Clint Michael Hatfield; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 2, 2007, at Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth with the Rev. Ed Messer officiating and internment in Scioto Burial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and two hours before the service Thursday.
