Georgie Mae Crawford, 78, of Portsmouth, a former Minford resident, died Saturday, July 21, 2007, at Hill View Retirement Center.

She was born Sept. 23, 1928, in Sciotoville, a daughter of the late James J. Smith and Erma Whitley Smith.

She formerly was employed at Williams Shoe Manufacturing where she worked on the Making Line, and was a self-employed upholsterer for many years, and she was a member of Harrison Free Will Baptist Church. She was married Dec. 31, 1948, in Russell, Ky., to Carl Edward Crawford, who preceded her in death May 28, 2005.

She is survived by one son, Michael E. Crawford, and wife, Paula, of Twin Valley; two daughters, Cathy Crawford, of France, and Lorie Reed, and husband, Brian, of New Boston; two sisters, Dorothy Spence, of New Boston, and Patty Bender, of Sciotoville; and one great-granddaughter, Sydney Micah Crawford.

She also was preceded in death by two brothers, John Vincent Smith and Troy Vernon Smith; seven sisters, Gertrude Hollbrook, Janet Smith, Carolyn Smith, Geraldine Smith, Marilyn Allard, Arlene Tipton and Annie Smith; and one granddaughter, Kelly Crawford.

Funeral services will take place 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, 2007, at Swick-Bussa-Chamberlin Funeral Home in Wheelersburg with Dan Widdig and Darrell Grimes officiating and burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Friends may call Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. and one hour before the service on Tuesday.
