Culvert replacement is planned

Ohio Department of Transportation's Scioto County Transportation Administrator Troy Huff has announced Ohio 73 will face a two-day closure next week in conjunction with a maintenance project.

On June 19, crews will close the route at the 10.0-mile marker in order to replace a deteriorated culvert. The project site is located just west of County Road 44 (Henley-Comstock Road), and the route will be closed at approximately 8 a.m. The closure will remain in effect through the end of the business day June 20 or until all work is completed, and completion of the project will be contingent upon the weather.

While the route is closed, motorists will be detoured via Ohio 104 at West Portsmouth and Ohio 348 at Otway. Financial report is available

Summer registration is set

Summer registration for the 2007-08 for the Green Local School District will take place from 9 a.m. to noon June 22 at Green Elementary School, 46 Braunlin Road, Franklin Furnace. Registration will be open to all students grades kindergarten through six.

Kindergarten children registering should attend with their parent(s) to receive a special treat. Bring the following: child's official birth certificate (Not the complimentary copy from the hospital), Social Security Card, custody papers (if applicable), immunization record.

Mosquito spraying is Monday

The Washington Township trustees will conduct mosquito spraying from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. Monday and June 21 in the Washington Township area.

Anyone with respiratory problems should consider closing their windows and shutting off any window-unit air conditioners until the fog has dissipated.

Fire injures father, twin daughters

Kentucky State Police in Ashland is investigating a structure fire of a residence in Greenup County, Ky., that left three people injured.

According to KSP, the fire started around 11:15 a.m. Wednesday at the home of Donnie and Janie Martin, 112 Lucerne Lane, in Greenup County, after neighbors called 911 to report the fire.

The Martin's three-year-old twin daughters were injured in the fire and flown to Shriners Hospital in Cincinnati, for their injuries. Donnie Martin was transported to Cabell-Huntington (W. Va) Hospital for his injuries, and was treated and released.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and the investigation is ongoing.

Minford man arrested for drugs

Scioto County Sheriff Marty Donini announced officers from the Scioto County Drug Task Force along with probation officers from the Scioto County Court of Common Pleas Court on Thursday searched the home of James Lundy, 32, at 1307 Salem Road, Minford.

Upon searching the residence, officers seized marijuana, OxyContin, Lorcet, digital scales, drug paraphernalia and $2,184 in cash.

Lundy was arrested for violating his probation, and he was charged with trafficking in marijuana and possession of OxyContin. His case will be forwarded to the Scioto County Prosecutor's Office to present to the Scioto County Grand Jury for consideration of additional charges.

He was being held in Scioto County Jail on probation hold, and will be arraigned by Portsmouth Municipal Court today.
