'Burg's 4x200 headed to state

Several area athletes competed in the Division II Regional Track meet at Meadowbrook High School in Byesville on Saturday with one relay team qualifying for state.

Wheelersburg's 4x200m relay team of Jordan Shankwiler, Nathan Fannin, Matt Jenkins and Caleb Brown ran the race in 1:32.31 to finish fourth and send themselves to Columbus on Friday.

Wheelersburg's 4x100m relay squad of Shankwiler, Fannin, Brown and Craig Stamper finished sixth with a time of 44.61.

Fannin also finished eight in the long jump with a distance of 19-4.50 and teammate John Riepenhoff failed to qualify in discus with a distance of 130-11.

Northwest's Bo Wilson finished 12th in the long jump and teammate Hank Leslie finished 15th in high jump at 5-8. Fellow Mohawk Julian Krickl failed to finish in the 300m hurdles and Portsmouth's Malik White finished seventh in that event with a time of 43.60.

In girls, Minford's Hannah Blackburn just missed qualifying in the 800m run and Bethany Redoutey of West finished sixth in the shot put with a distance of 36-2 and 11th in the discus with a distance of 100-1.

The state meet will be held at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium at Ohio State on Friday.
