Sunday will be a day of remembering and celebration at First Presbyterian. They will celebrate the church's 190th anniversary and the 100 year-old-gift of a baptismal font from daughter church, Second Presbyterian. Excerpts from the presentation address will be read by Steve Scurlock, a member of Second Presbyterian Church. The acceptance speech will be read by David Wear. The children will sing a special anthem. The children's sermon will focus on the baptismal font, and the message delivered by Pastor Stan Webster will address Christian unity. Ceremonies honoring Peter and Charlotte Weaver and First Presbyterian Church's role in assisting in the Underground Railroad will take place in conjunction with Presbyterian Heritage Sunday. Judith Ross, representing the Canal Society, will present First Presbyterian with a plaque commemorating the church's participation in the Underground Railroad.
