Reader says Ali doesn't deserve praise he receives

I watched “Dancing with the Stars” on the night they gave Billy Ray Cyrus the boot.

Billy told how he had a great time and made a lot of good friends. Good for him!

I have no problem with Billy Ray, but something he said sickened me. He said he also had the chance to meet his hero, Mohammed Ali.

This man may have been a great boxer, but certainly he is no one I would want my children looking up to.

He is a coward and a draft dodger. He turned his back on his country when we needed him. He made a mockery of our government and turned his back on the one true God, Jesus Christ.

To call this man a hero is a slap in the face to every man and woman who have served or died serving this country.

My heroes are people like Jonathan Etterling. This is a true hero. In my opinion, Ali should be run out of this country, or better yet, put before a firing squad and shot.

West production of ‘Les Miserables' was top notch

I am sorry the Vern Riffe Center for the Arts was not full to capacity each night for Portsmouth West High School's performance of “Les Miserables.”

Those who did not attend missed a wonderful opportunity to see a group of dedicated young people and the teacher present a fabulous evening of entertainment. I was amazed at the talent we have in this area. We are so blessed.

This is one grandmother who is so proud of the West High School Chorus, Mrs. Tieman, and all of the parents and businesses that gave so much support to this effort. We need all the positive images we can get for our young people and this community. Keep up the wonderful work!
