Man arrested on drug charges

Scioto County Sheriff's Office said on Wednesday at approximately 12:15 p.m., officers from the Scioto County Drug Task Force arrested Tommy Whisman, 36, on an outstanding warrant out of Portsmouth Municipal Court and for manufacturing methamphetamine.

According to the sheriff's office, officers from the Task Force, along with officers of the Portsmouth Municipal Court Probation Department. received a tip of Whisman's location on Flatwood Fallen Timber Road, in Lucasville.

Whisman was arrested for an outstanding warrant. A search of his residence uncovered a mason jar containing a substance commonly found during the process of meth production.

Whisman was charged with illegal manufacture of drugs, and placed in the Scioto County Jail. He will be arraigned in the Portsmouth Municipal Court today.

Bicycle Safety Camp is May 17

In honor of May as National Bicycle Safety Month, Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital, in conjunction with Community Presbyterian Church of Bellefonte and OLBH's Community HealthWatch Partnership, will host the ninth annual OLBH Bicycle Safety Camp from 6 to 8:30 p.m. May 17, with registration and minor bike repair beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The free camp for children ages 5 to 12 takes place at the Community Presbyterian Church of Bellefonte, 605 Bellefonte Princess Road, Bellefonte, Ky. Participants will learn balance skills, bicycle handling, how to check bike operation, safety before riding and how to look for and dodge accident-causing situations. Door prizes will be awarded and refreshments provided. Prizes will include new bikes.

Each participant is asked to bring a bike and any safety equipment. The church's nursery will be open during the camp with parental supervision required. The rain date for the camp will be May 24.

Minford schools set public meeting

The Minford Local School District will have a public meeting to solicit input into the development of all state and federal grants at 4:30 p.m. May 17 in the tier room at Minford High School, 491 Bond Road, Minford.
