Minford teacher asks community to get all facts on schools' finances

I am writing regarding the recent financial news that was released concerning the Minford Local School District. I am a resident, a parent of a student and also a third-grade teacher in the district.

I understand right now people are very upset and hearing many different stories about the financial situation of our district. Some are making decisions concerning open enrollment based on these stories. I am urging everyone to please take the time to find out all of the facts before making this decision.

For each child we have in our district as an open-enrollment student, our district receives approximately $5,400. We all are worried about more teaching staff being released from the district. If we lose the open-enrollment students or the local students we currently have, it is even more likely to occur. That is the last thing we want to see happen.

I really don't think people realize the value of our open-enrollment students and the impact that would be felt if we lost them or if we lost our local students to other districts.

We are definitely in a very bleak financial situation, and we are all wondering how we got here. There is no doubt about that.

However, I have lived here all of my life and I know our community is a strong one. We have pulled together in the past to make it through hard times, and I believe it can be done again.

Please find out the facts before making any decisions that could cause even more harm. Our children are worth it.

Our staff is worth it. Our community is worth it.

Former resident says Mollette should be removed from Council

Well, I lived in Portsmouth for almost four years. I liked the town. But I am tired, and am getting more tired still, of hearing Bob Mollette's name. He is a disgrace to us and Portsmouth.

He needs to be taken out of office forcefully.

I really enjoyed parts of that on crime, drugs and prostitution, then maybe people would give him more respect.

He doesn't get the job done, and he won't work with anybody else.

It's time for a change.
