The Lady Mohawks were only able to muster three hits off Adkins, who went the distance giving up only one run.
Adkins went seven innings, giving up the lone run on three hits while walking three batters and striking out four.
The losing pitcher of record was Audrey Lute. Lute gave up seven runs on 13 hits. She walked one batter and recorded four strikeouts.
Adkins doubled to start the game for the Lady Red Devils and was brought home on a Katie Ferry single to give Russell the lead. The Red Devils added a pair in the second. Back-to-back singles by Elizabeth Gehringer and Jenny Ferguson started the inning. Both were plated on a two-run single by Brianna Gullett.
Meanwhile, Adkins was stifling the Lady Mohawks, recording a perfect game through three innings.
Another trio of runs crossed the dish in fourth frame for the Lady Red Devils. Gullett singled to lead off the inning two more base hits followed with Adkins and Ferry each knocking in a run.
In the home half of the fourth, the Lady Mohawks ended any hopes of a shutout. After reaching on a fielder's choice and stealing a base, Rachel Lute was plated by Brooke Montgomery to bring Northwest within five runs at 6-1.
Russell pushed another run across in the sixth inning. Ferry was plated on Samantha Sparks RBI single to make the final margin of victory 7-1.
“We have a really nice defense,” Russell coach Ron Osborne said. “I have a nice ball club, they work hard.”
“They (Russell) have a nice ball club,” Northwest assistant coach Tom Simon said. “You can't give a good team four and five outs an inning.”
