Worker struck by train|Killed while working on equipment in Pike County

A railroad worker was killed alongside U.S. 23 in Pike County on Monday after being struck by an oncoming train.

According to Pike County Sheriff Larry Travis, an unidentified employee of Norfolk Southern Railway, from Batavia, was working on a piece of equipment when he was struck by a train at about 11:07 a.m. on Monday.

The Pike County coroner arrived and pronounced the man dead on the scene, and transported the body to the Hamilton County Morgue for an autopsy.

The name of the victim was being withheld pending notification of his family.

No further information was available at press time, and a call placed to the Norfolk Southern Corps. on Monday was not immediately returned.
