With most schools in Scioto County looking at a two-day deficit caused by recent snow days, some have chosen to remain open Monday - President's Day - which according to the school calendar was a scheduled day off.

“We have been closed seven days, and the state gives us five calamity days, so after Monday, we will only have one day to make up,” said Clay High School Principal Todd Warnock.

Other schools that will be open include Bloom-Vernon, Green, Valley, Wheelersburg and the Scioto County Joint Vocational School. Northwest and Washington-Nile also will be open, and both will use April 9 as a make-up day.

Other schools will remain closed in observance of the scheduled day off, and will be in the process of setting dates to make up the two days off.

Portsmouth East will be closed, but has two tentative dates already on its school calendar.

“It will certainly be up to the school board, but tentatively, we have set March 23 and March 26, but again, it's important to note the final decision will be made by our board,” said Dennis DeCamp, director for Sciotoville Community School.

Joining East in closing Monday will be Notre Dame, Portsmouth City, Minford and New Boston schools.
