James Holmes, 74

James Cecil Holmes, 74, of Ashland, Ky., died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2007.

He was born Sept. 6, 1932, in Peebles, a son of the late William and Clara Holmes. He was an Air Force veteran.

Surviving are his wife, Barbara Holmes; daughters, Myra Peffer, Jenny Pemberton and Jamie Hardy; sons, Tim and Ronnie Holmes; and nine grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Preston Family Funeral Home in Ashland with the Rev. Tim Holmes officiating and interment in Dixon Cemetery.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Garvin Mack, 83

Garvin D. “Dutch” Mack, 83, of West Union, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2007, at a West Union nursing home.

He was born May 31, 1923, in Manchester, a son of the late Charles and Valverda Nixon Mack.

Surviving are wife, Alice Rhodes Mack; sons, Gordon Kibler and Charles Mack; daughters, Betty Schindler and Tara Jo Lewis; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at East Liberty Community Church in Lynx with the Rev. Volley Reed officiating and interment in East Liberty Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Lafferty Funeral Home in West Union.

Charles Chafens, 95

Charles Estill Chafens, 95, of Greenup, Ky., died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2007, at his residence.

He was born Aug. 7, 1911, in Greenup, Ky., a son of the late Joseph and Lusina Crisp Chafens.

Surviving are wife, Vine Ella Reedy Chafens; sons, William Russell Chafens, Gary Lewis Chafens and Joseph Eugene Chafens; daughter, Eva Pezzullo; 14 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup, Ky., with Dr. Kail Ruffner officiating and interment in Baker-McGinnis Cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Ralph J. Blakeman, 66

Ralph J. Blakeman, 66, of Stockdale, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2007, at his residence.

He born Jan. 8, 1940, in Scioto County, a son of the late Roy Lee and Ethel Thompson Blakeman.

He is survived by sons, Mark, Roy Lee and Ralph David Blakeman; daughter, Sherry Ann Fitzpatrick; brothers, Jack , William, Eugene, Donald and Kenneth Blakeman; sister, Sharon Hitchcock; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Erwin-Dodson-Allen Funeral Home in Minford with Pastor Daryl Grimes officiating and interment in Stockdale Cemetery.

Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Helen Ratliff, 86

Helen Ratliff, 86, of Waverly, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2007, at a Waverly nursing home.

She was born April 12, 1920, in Pike County, a son of the late Jacob Young Dyke and Mary Pearl Stulley. She was preceded in death by husband, Ralph E. Ratliff.

Surviving are sons, Rodger V. and Charles D. DeWitt; sister, Mildred Elwood Newton; brother, the Rev. Mason Dyke; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Boyer Funeral Home in Waverly with Charles DeWitt officiating and interment in Evergreen Union Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Janet Wilson, 59

Janet Gwyn Wilson, 59, of Dayton, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2007, at Kettering hospital.

She was the daughter of Betty J. Boren and the late Richard E. Boren.

Also surviving are her husband, Walter L. Wilson III; daughter, Betsy J. Wilkson; son, Walter L. Wilson IV; sister, Connie J. Fletcher; brother, Chris E. Boren; and three grandchildren.

Services will be 7 p.m. Thursday at Marker and Heller Funeral Home, Huber Heights Chapel, 5844 Old Troy Pike, Huber Heights, with Pastor Harvey Smith officiating. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Patricia Kellemeyer, 81

Patricia Ann Kellemeyer, 81, of Portsmouth, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2007, at Southern Ohio Medical Center. She was born in Portsmouth, Jan. 23, 1925, a daughter of the late Harry and Mary Jane Lurty McNeer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert H. Kellemeyer.

Surviving are sons, Richard L. “Rick” Kellemeyer; two grandsons; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Cornerstone United Methodist Church with the Rev. Clark Hess officiating and interment in Memorial Burial Park.

Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church.

Arthur Gash, 79

CMSgt. Arthur Donald Gash, USAF, retired, 79, of Universal City, Texas, died Jan. 6, 2007.

He was a veteran of World War II, Korean and Vietnam wars.

He is survived by his wife, Mary P. Gash; daughters, Pamela Gash Venturi and Melanie Gash Muelle; sisters, Esther Stone and Audrey Butler; and four grandchildren.

Serevices will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Holy Trinity Presbyterian Church, 16245 Nacogdoches Road, San Antonio, Texas, and interment in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with full military honors.

Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. at Colonial Funeral Home, 625 Kitty Hawk, Universal City, Texas.
