Marilyn Murphy, 74

Marilyn Joan Murphy, 74, of Waverly, died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2006, at home.

She was born on Feb. 21, 1932, in Pike County, a daughter of the late Earl and Eulah Claytor Swinning. She was preceded in death by her husband, Weldon Leo Murphy.

She is survived by her sons, Tim and Kelly Murphy; sister, Ellen Faye Beekman; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Sunday at Botkin Funeral Home in Waverly with Dale Reed officiating and interment in Waverly Evergreen Union Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Glenn VanHorn, 52

Glenn VanHorn, 52, of South Shore, Ky., died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2006, at Southern Ohio Medical Center.

He was born in Lawrence County, Ky., a son of the late Harold VanHorn and Ivory Lemaster VanHorn.

Services will be at the convenience of the family. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Roberson Funeral Home in South Shore.

Marilyn Shope, 64

Marilyn K. Arter Shope, 64, died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2006, at a Jackson hospital.

She was born Sept. 1, 1942, in Oak Hill, a daughter of the late Roy and Louella Staten Carter.

Surviving are her sons, Thomas, Kevin and Mark Shope; sister, Wilma Napper; brother, Marlin Carter; and nine grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Kuhner-Lewis Funeral Home in Oak Hill with the Rev. Tim Simpson officiating and interment in C.M. Cemetery. Friends may call from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Doris Riffe, 79

Doris Riffe, 79, of Lucasville, died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2006, at Southern Ohio Medical Center. Doris was born April 24, 1927, in Adams County, to the late Illie A. and Lucy G. Hayslip Weghorst.

She is survived by her husband, Harold Riffe; sons, Jerry Barnett, Greg Cooper, Tony Cooper, and Kevin Riffe; daughter, Doris Baker; brother, Fredrick Weghorst; sisters, Myrtle Gifford and Thelma Kersey; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth with Grace Bloomfield and Andrew Ramey officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday.
