SSU plans open house
Shawnee State University will host its annual open house Saturday with a full day of activities for future students and their families. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. in the Vern Riffe Center for Arts, with the program starting at 10 a.m. in the Flohr Lecture Hall of the Clark Memorial Library.
The event will include parent sessions, academic presentations from the university departments, housing tours, and a college athletics presentation. Lunch will be provided. There will also be academic support tables and presentations.

Business seminar planned for Friday
A one-day seminar, “Exploring Small Business Ownership,” sponsored by Shawnee State University's Business and Industry Training Center, will take place from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday in Room 030 of the Administration Building at SSU. The seminar will include a variety of topics including: how to conduct market research; where to find financing; tips on managing credit reports; how to write a business plan; and the 10 myths of starting a business.
The instructor is Jackie LeBerth of EnterpriseWorks. The seminar fee is $49, which includes lunch and the workbook. To register, call the Business and Industry Training Center at (740) 351-3171 or toll free at (866) 672-8778. The deadline for registration is today.
Pancake breakfast is Saturday
William A. Baker Post American Legion will host a pancake and sausage breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Post, 23 West St., Lucasville. Cost will be $4 each. Part of the proceeds will go to scholarships for a Valley student and a Northwest student.
Health fair set for Friday
A health fair will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Lucasville Center Street United Methodist Church. Flu and pneumonia shots, sponsored by Southern Ohio Medical Center, will be given. The cost will be $15 for flu and $25 for pneumonia or bring Medicare card. There also will be several presentations.
