Washington-Nile sets meeting

Washington-Nile Local School District will have a public meeting to review the district's state, federal and local projects at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Portsmouth West Elementary School Library, U.S. 52, West Portsmouth.

Health fair is Thursday

Portsmouth West Middle School's Community Health Fair will take place from 1 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Portsmouth West Middle School. The fair is open to the public.

Wheelersburg schools sets conferences

Wheelersburg Local Schools will have parent/teacher conferences Thursday. Conferences in grades kindergarten to three will be from 3:30 to 5:30 and 6 to 8:30 p.m. and are scheduled. Conferences for students in grade four will be from 3:30 to 5:30 and 6 to 8:30 p.m. and no appointment is needed. Teachers in grades kindergarten to four will have dinner from 5:30 to 6 p.m. Grades five to eight and the high school will have conferences from 2:30 to 5 and 5:30 to 8 p.m. No appointment is needed for grades five to eight and nine to 12. Teachers in grades 5 to 8 and nine to 12 will have dinner from 5 to 5:30 p.m. There will be no school in the district Friday.

Book sets non-partisan discussion Thursday

Representative Todd Book, D-McDermott, will host a non-partisan discussion of the numerous state issues appearing on the ballot this year from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Copley Meeting Room of Portsmouth Public Library, 1220 Gallia St. For more information, call (740) 353-3113.

Chili cook-off is planned

A chili cook-off will begin at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Lucasville Center Street United Methodist Church. There will be a small fee for three men and three women teams. The cook-off is open to the public who will vote for the best chili.

Portsmouth tests hydrants

Portsmouth Fire Department will continue its annual fire hydrant testing through Friday.

The area involved in Portsmouth will be north of Kinney's Lane to the northern city limits and from Mabert Road to Chillicothe Street north of U.S. 23 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

The area involved in Sciotoville will be east from the filtration plant to Harding Avenue and north on Harding Avenue to the city limits between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
