The farm, owned by Janine Hansing, is 60 acres in size and has three courses. One course is a jumping course that has seven gates and fences for each horse and rider to jump, while the cross country course consists of eight felled trees along a flat course that winds along a path next to Turkey Creek, and the third course is located at an indoor facility adjacent to the other two courses.
The Beginner Jumper 1 winner was Trudy Uldrich, with second- through fifth-place prizes awarded to Jeanette Bauer, Sandy Mann, Sally Gunter and Jennifer Williams, respectively.
Jeanette Bauer captured Beginner Jumper 2 competition, followed by Jennifer Williams, Sandy Mann, Trudy Uldrich and Sally Gunter, while the Introductory Jumper winner was Sally Gunter, followed by Trudy Uldrich.
In the cross country Beginner Class 1 Sandy Mann took first place, followed by Cornelia Kacir, and Hannah Breitenbach. Mann won the division championship.
In the introductory division, first round, Sally Gunter finished first, with Chris Kacir, second, Jeanette Bauer, third, and Trudy Uldrich, fourth. The second round went to Gunter, Bauer, Chris Kacir and Uldrich, respectively, with Gunter winning the division championship.
“This is our second year for this series,” said Emily Uldrich. “We had four shows this year, two last year and we are planning three for next year.”
In addition to the shows, Hansing and Uldrich offer training, lessons and boarding.
“My daughter Hannah came down this summer and spent a lot of time at her grandmother, Rosemary Richard's house and came here for riding lessons twice a week,” said Luann Breitenbach, who lives in Cincinnati. “She learned all the basics here, and she has really enjoyed it.”
Hannah Breitenbach, 12, was participating in her first show Saturday, and took her horse through the cross country course gingerly, completing the course in just over a minute and 58 seconds.
Hansing's mother, Theresa Gifford, talked about Hansing's riding history.
“She won't tell you this, but Janine won the Kentucky Nationals one year,” said Gifford. “She is a great jumper, having trained with Pam Graham in Columbus.”
The shows in 2007 will be in May, August and October. Anyone wishing to participate may call (740) 858-6017.
