Rebecca Smalley, of Petersville, Ky., reported her vehicle, a 1991 Ford Taurus, stolen at about 8:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Deputy Johnny Bivens of the Lewis County Sheriff's office, with the assistance of deputies Jason Hill and Eddie Vice, apprehended Joe Mineer, 34, of Wallingford, Ky., after Bivens located the stolen vehicle driving recklessly near the Lewis/Fleming county line at about 10 p.m. - less than two hours after the car was reported stolen.
According to deputy Hill, Mineer forced his way into Smalley's home, claiming he was looking for a friend. When Mineer refused to leave, Smalley called her sister to help her get him out of her home. According to deputies, Mineer was so intoxicated at the time, that upon leaving the house, he mistakenly got into the wrong vehicle, inside which Smalley had left the keys.
Mineer admitted to deputies that he had been drinking and had used marijuana. Deputies also discovered Xanax and Lorecet on Mineer's person.
This was Mineer's third DUI offense, and he was transported to the Lewis County Detention Center.
