A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Michael Greer, of Wheelersburg, on two counts of aggravated robbery - both occurring on separate days in the parking lot of the Wheelersburg Kroger earlier this month. A woman was injured in one of the incidents.
“Most of our criminals know not to hurt innocent people, because they know we'll come down hard on them,” said Detective Denver Triggs, of the Scioto County Sheriff's Department.
The first incident happened on the night of Sept. 5 when an unknown assailant snatched a woman's purse and then used his vehicle to push the victim away so he could escape, officers said.
The second incident occurred on Sept. 9 when the same assailant grabbed another purse and again jumped into his vehicle, officers said. This time the woman grabbed the vehicle as it drove away, but caught her arm inside the window. She was dragged several feet before falling onto the pavement. She suffered several contusions on her arms, elbows and face, and was treated and released at Southern Ohio Medical Center.
“Anytime you use any type of weapon in a robbery, and a vehicle can be a weapon, it's considered aggravated robbery,” said Triggs. “We'd like to get him off the streets. We don't want him to hurt anyone else, or himself.”
Deputies have already seized Greer's vehicle, believed to be used in the robberies, and have recovered some of the stolen items.
Greer has a past criminal record that includes robbery, passing bad checks and drugs. Officers said he should be considered dangerous.
