Southern Ohio Medical Center Community Health and Wellness Services will provide free cardiac risk screening from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. Friday at the Lucasville LIFE Center. No appointment is necessary. The screening will consist of total cholesterol, HDL, glucose and blood pressure. A two-hour fast prior to the glucose is recommended. Professional health counseling will be provided following the testing.

Mosquito spraying planned for Thursday

Ohio Pest Control, in conjunction with the Rush Township trustees, will conduct mosquito spraying from 6 to 11 p.m. Thursday. If inclement weather prevents the spraying, then spraying will be done Aug. 31 at the same time.

Anyone with respiratory problems should consider closing windows and shutting off any window-unit air conditioners until the fog has dissipated.

Crop Walk open house is set

Open house for the 15th annual Scioto County Crop Walk will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Cornerstone United Methodist Church, 1415 Gallia St.

Business Planning 101 is Aug. 31

Portsmouth Inner City Development Corporation and Ohio Valley Minority Business Association will conduct a workshop titled Business Planning 101 from 1 to 4 p.m. Aug. 31.

This workshop will focus on the essential elements of startup business plans and how to develop a winning plan for a business. There is no charge for the workshop.

Free computer training is Thursday

Shawnee Computer of New Boston will have two free computer trainings from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Thursday at New Boston Library, 3850 Rhodes Ave., New Boston. Munch-N-Learn Team from SEO bright.net will demonstrate the basics of surfing the Internet, preventing viruses and spyware, and how to keep your e-mail under control. After each session there will be an open forum discussion and snacks.
