LUCASVILLE - Courtney Pertuset, 19, of Portsmouth, has her name etched in Scioto County Fair history.

“I'm the first triple crown winner in the steer division,” Pertuset said. “I won the grand champion Best of Scioto County, the grand champion Weight of Gain, and the overall grand champion.”

Her grand champion steer weighed in at 1,364 pounds and it took a lot of work, as well as a lot of feed, to get it to the center ring at the Scioto County Fair.

“You have to give it a bath, walk it, feed it, water it and groom it every day.”

How much feed does a grand champion steer consume?

“I think around 40 pounds a day,” said Pertuset.

She's decided what she's going to do with the money she gets from the livestock auction.

“I'm gonna save it,” she said.

The junior fair livestock sale will be today at noon in the livestock arena.

The order that the animals will be sold are goats, pigs, lambs and steers.

The 2006 Scioto County Fair will culminate with the annual demolition derby at 5 p.m.
