On July 22, barrel racers from Ohio and surrounding states will compete at the Speed to Succeed Horse Show at the Ohio University Southern-owned Ohio Horse Park in Franklin Furnace. The show is sanctioned by the National Barrel Horse Association Show and offers $1,500. Proceeds from the show will benefit the Ohio Horse Park Center for Therapeutic Riding. The exhibition show begins at 1 pm.
The Ohio Horse Park Center for Therapeutic Riding is in need of many items including a volunteer area, learning stations for the riders, arena props and learning devices. HCA's car show will be Saturday
Harvest Christian Academy will have a car show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at South Portsmouth (Ky.) Church of God, near the Carl Perkins Bridge.
Registration fee will be $10. There will be top 40 and speciality trophies awarded at 3 p.m. Also there will be door prizes, food and music. All proceeds will go to the school.
South Webster has vacant position

Veterans are entitled to treatment
The Scioto County Veterans Service Office informs all Gulf War and Iraqi War veterans that they are entitled to two years of medical treatment at any VA Medical Center. Veterans also may be entitled to other veterans' benefits. Call (740) 353-1477 for more information.
For all veterans in Scioto County, transportation to and from VA Medical centers is available. The vans run Monday through Thursday each week. Veterans should have the medical center schedule them a morning appointment if possible. The vans travel to VA Medical centers in Chillicothe, Huntington, Dayton, Cincinnati and Columbus.
