The Little Miss River Days and Tiny Miss River Days pageants will be at 4 p.m. Sept. 2 at the Vern Riffe Center for the Arts, 940 Second St. All contestants will ride in the River Days Parade.
Entry fee will be $25 for ages kindergarten through fifth grade.
Tiny Miss River Days, ages 3 to 5, will be a penny per vote systems.
All contestants must be residents Scioto County residents. Applications can be picked up at the Ritz or Southern Ohio Craft Mall. For more information, call (740) 574-2218 or (740) 574-8960.
Blood drives are scheduled
The Ohio River Valley Juvenile Correctional Facility will sponsor a blood drive in honor of Jadelynn Lawson from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the facility, 4696 Gallia Pike, Franklin Furnace. To schedule an appointment, call Kelly Madasci at (740) 354-9799.
Bikers for Charity will host a blood drive from noon to 1 p.m. Friday at Russell D. Williams Post American Legion, 950 Gallia St. For an appointment, call the Red Cross Chapter at (740) 354-3293.
All donors will be required to have identification.
‘History Alive' will be Thursday
At 7 p.m. Thursday people can step back to the spring of 1865 and sit in on the conversations of Generals Ulysses S. Grant and Robert E. Lee at the Lake Vesuvius amphitheater near the OUS nature center, which is located in Wayne National Forest. Following their remarks, the generals will accept questions from the audience, much as if they were addressing the 1865 media.
To help set the mood, the Ohio University Southern Activity Band will perform Civil War era music at 6 p.m.
