Queens committee seeks information

The Portsmouth River Days Queen Committee is currently asking past River Days Queens to submit an 8X10 photo from their reign for display at the 44th annual River Days Festival. New to this year's festivities will be window displays in various businesses in the downtown area featuring “Past Queens.” If you are a past title holder, have contact information or are in possession of candid photos from past pageants, festivals and reigns, please contact Lori Lowe at (740) 776-4403 or lorilowe2003@yahoo.com; or Robin Seaman at (740) 259-3510 or robin.seaman@east.k12.oh.us. This will be an annual project added to the River Days Festival.

Dermatologist speaks on skin cancer

The American Cancer Society's I Can Cope program, in cooperation with Southern Ohio Medical Center, will have a meeting on skin cancer with dermatologist Ibrahim Zayneh, M.D., as guest speaker at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the SOMC Cancer Center, 1121 Kinney's Lane. This informative meeting is not just for cancer patients but is open to the general public as well. To learn about the risk factors and prevention strategies (e.g. “Is there a safe way to tan?”) call the American Cancer Society's Cancer Resource Center at (740) 356-7606 to preregister.

Republican committee meets Tuesday

Scioto County Republican Central Committee will have its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at New Boston Community Center, 3980 Rhodes Ave., New Boston. At the reorganizational meeting 2006 officers who were elected were Rodney Barnett, chairman; Sylvan Davis, vice chairman; Sharon McNelly, secretary; and Maxine Arnett, treasurer.
