Accident sends several to hospital

William Coburn, 21, faces multiple charges following a two-car accident on Ohio 522 around 3:18 p.m. Monday.

According to the Portsmouth Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Coburn was driving west on Ohio 522 when his car went left of center, over-corrected and struck another vehicle, operated by 41-year-old Nita Ruggles.

Ruggles was treated and released at Southern Ohio Medical Center.

No condition was available for a 5-year-old female passenger in the Ruggles' car.

Coburn, who was injured, will be charged with failure to control, D.U.I., having fictitious plates, and driving on an expired drivers license.

He was transferred from SOMC to Cabell Huntington Hospital, where he was being treated. No condition was available at press time.

Northwest dismisses early Friday

The students of the Northwest Local School District will be dismissed one hour early Friday. Regular bus routes will be in effect. Northwest High School students will be dismissed one hour early Monday.

SSU learning center plans carnival

Shawnee State University Children's Learning Center will have a spring carnival from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday on the CLC parking lot, corner of Third and Union streets. There will be inflatables, raffle baskets, food and prizes.

Peace rally set for Thursday

A peace rally will be from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Village Square Park on Rhodes Avenue, New Boston. This is to protest the talk of pre-action against Iran.

Volunteers needed at Ohio Horse Park

Ohio University Southern Center for therapeutic riding is in need of volunteers at the Ohio Horse Park in Franklin Furnace.

The OUS staff is looking for dedicated people to help with therapeutic riding for children and teens.

A free volunteer training session is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 20 refreshments being served.

No horse experience is necessary. The Ohio Horse Park is a NARHA member center.

There are many volunteer positions available on an as-needed schedule.
