4-H quality assurance training is Monday

The final Junior Fair Quality Assurance Training Sessions for Scioto County 4-H members will be Monday at the Scioto County Joint Vocational School. Four-H parents and volunteers also are encouraged to attend.

Registration will begin at 5:30 p.m. Monday. The program will begin at 6 p.m. No late entries will be registered after the program begins. It will last approximately two hours.

Baked goods and snack items will be available at all events for a small fee. The snack bar will be sponsored by the Scioto County Junior Fair Board.

Shawnee State hosts Mark Taylor

Shawnee State University will host Mark Taylor, M.S.W., Ed.D., who will present “Generation NeXt Comes to College: Understanding Teaching and Serving Today's Postmodern Students,” from 10 to 11:30 a.m. or 1 to 2:30 p.m. today in the Vern Riffe Center for the Arts.

Taylor has a bachelor's degree in psychology and biology, a master's degree in social work and a doctorate in counseling, all from the University of Arkansas. He is currently director of guidance services at Arkansas State University and is responsible for counseling, disability, career, testing, academic advising, orientation, housing/residence life, student activities/leadership, student success programming and other student services. Taylor has been a licensed psychotherapist in Arkansas since 1981.

The event is open to all students, faculty and staff at no cost.

Holt reception is Monday at SSU

The Shawnee State University Clark Memorial Library will host a reception from 4 to 5 p.m. Monday to honor Jerry Holt, Ph.D., former SSU dean and current dean of the school of liberal studies at Antioch University in Yellow Springs, to honor the publication of his debut work of fiction, “The Killing of Strangers.”

Books will be available for purchase at the reception for $16 per copy with a discount for faculty and staff members.
