A spokesperson for American Electric Power said customers began calling around 7:40 p.m.
At press time, AEP did not know the cause of the outage. Crews were working on the problem but did not know how long it would take for service to be restored.
Auto accident involves four
Police and medical crews responded to a two-car accident in South Shore, Ky., at 10:03 p.m. Monday. Dispatchers said four people were involved and a helicopter was called to transport one person to a hospital. No additional information or names were available at press time.
Free screening is Wednesday
The Portsmouth Lions Club in conjunction with Dr. Aaron Kallner, O.D., will offer free glaucoma and blood sugar screenings from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Village Market Pharmacy in Rosemount. The screenings will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
Pet vaccination clinic is Saturday
The Animal Welfare League of Scioto County will sponsor its annual pet vaccination clinic Saturday and May 13. Saturday's clinics will be at these locations: from 2 to 4 p.m. at Washington Township Fire Station, 1341 Fourth St., West Portsmouth; and from 2 to 4 p.m. at Minford Fire Station, Ohio 335, Minford.
The May 13 clinics will be from 2 to 4 p.m. at Porter Township Fire Station, 676 Center St., Wheelersburg; and from 3 to 5 p.m. at Portsmouth Central Fire Station, 1529 Gallia St.
Vaccinations will be $5 to $7 each. Heartworm testing will be offered at all locations.

East plans enrollment meeting
East High School will sponsor a meeting for prospective fifth- and sixth-grade students for the 2006-07 school year at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the gymnasium at East High school, Marshall Avenue, Sciotoville. Current parents, teachers and other school officials will be available to explain programs and answer any questions.
Open enrollment applications are being accepted for the upcoming school year and may be secured at this informational meeting or by calling the school at (740) 776-6777.
Benefit rummage sale is set
A benefit rummage, hot dog and bake sale, sponsored by Serenity Acres Christian Outreach, will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today, Wednesday and Thursday in the school and agriculture building at the Greenup County Fairgrounds in Greenup, Ky.
