Flu shots at Staker’s Drugs

Staker’s Drugs will be offering flu shots and pneumonia vaccines at their three locations in October. Immunizations will be available at Staker’s Drugs in Portsmouth on Thursday, October 6, 10am - 1pm. Staker’s West Side Center will offer vaccines on Tuesday, October 11, 10am - noon. Staker’s Drugs in Wheelersburg will have vaccines available on Tuesday, October 18, 10am - 1pm.

Cost for the flu shot is $25.00 and $65.00 for pneumonia vaccine. Vaccines are covered by Medicare Part B and Medicaid (including Caresource and Molina). Current insurance card must be presented for coverage.

Immunizations will be provided by and administered by the Scioto County Health Department. For more information, contact Staker’s Drugs at 353-1135.

Group to open substance abuse mission

VANCEBURG, Ky. — Local non-profit corporation Second Chance Mission Inc., a religious center and charity, recently announce the opening of services, beginning Nov. 1. Non-therapeutic faith-based programs will include lay personnel counseling, Biblical readings/teachings and group recovery sessions

Funding for the center will come from public donations/contributions, fundraising events, and possible grants. Fundraising projects at the center include: Gift/Craft Center, Greenhouse/Garden Center, New/Used Clothing, Furniture, Toys, etc. A Food Pantry will be available as funding permits.

The goal this mission is to see the recovered person as a fully functional contributing member of society, with the full plan of salvation working in his/her life. Volunteers are also welcome.

Songwriters workshop to move meeting location

The Portsmouth Ohio/Ashland, Ky., Regional Chapter of the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI) is affiliating with Southern Ohio’s National Gospel Stage (SONGS, located in the Wheelersburg Cinemas, and will be meeting there beginning this month. The Cinemas are on Ohio River Road in Wheelersburg. The regular meeting time for the workshop is the last Thursday of every month at 6:30 p.m. and the first meeting to be held at SONGS will be this Thursday.

NSAI is the world’s largest not-for-profit trade association with workshops in more than 150 cities, and is dedicated to the service of amateur and professional songwriters in all genres of music.
