Two of the scholarships will be awarded to students classified as freshmen in the fall at Shawnee State University. The student must have completed high school and been accepted to SSU.
Two more scholarships will be awarded to students classified as juniors in the fall at SSU. The final two scholarships will be given to students entering their junior year at a college or university other than SSU.
All of the scholarships will be paid over a year and will be applied to the student's tuition and fees.
Tess Midkiff, chair of the scholarship committee for the Rotary Club of Portsmouth, said the Club wants to reach out to well-rounded youth in the area.
“We are looking for students who excel academically and who have participated in community service,” she said. This is the 24th year the Rotary Club has awarded the scholarships.
In order to be eligible, a student must be a resident of Scioto County, provide letters of recommendation and grade transcripts and submit materials by July 15. They also must have completed community service. Family members of Rotary Club members are not eligible.
