Dixon found guilty of rape, robbery, assault

GREENUP, Ky. - An Ironton man was sentenced to 47 years in jail for the sexual assault and beating of Russell, Ky. video store clerk.

A Greenup County Circuit Court jury found 21-year-old William Dixon guilty of rape, robbery, and assault charges for the July 14, 2004 attack of the female manager of the Superstar Video store in the Russell Plaza.

An accomplice, 31-year-old Wayne Murphy of Ironton, will face trial on the same charges next May.

The two men are also suspects in the July 5, 2004 assault of a Franklin Furnace clerk. Art Waddell, 61, was working at the Blanton & Graff Market in Franklin Furnace when he was attacked and robbed during daylight hours.

No charges have been filed in the Waddell case as of Tuesday.

Greenbo plays host to Santa

Greenbo Lake State Resort Park in Greenup, Ky., will provide three upcoming opportunities for children and their parents to enjoy a lunch buffet with Santa Claus.

The Portsmouth Community Orchestra under the direction of Carl Daehler will perform at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 17 at the Vern Riffe Center for the Arts. Program will include “Let It Snow,” “Stille Nacht,” Dance of the Tumblers,” “Fantasy on Greensleeves,” “Nutcracker Suite,” and “Sleigh Ride.” “Just a Baby Boy” will feature Steve Free. Also the Portsmouth Community Orchestra Chorale will perform.

And, there will be a audience sing-a-long of Christmas carols.

Retired teachers to meet Dec. 13

The Scioto County Retired Teachers will meet Dec. 13 at Hill View Retirement Center.
