Shawnee State returns home tonight riding quite a high.

Off to their best start since 2003, the Bears are 5-0 and enter conference play tonight against Walsh (1-2) at the James A. Rhodes Athletic Center.

No. 22 Shawnee State had a good weekend, winning two games at St. Francis. The first, against Spring Arbor, wasn't even close as the Bears romped to an 83-55 victory.

Still, the score hides what was a lackluster outing by her team, said Bears coach Robin Hagen-Smith. That changed though against No. 6 St. Francis, with Shawnee State winning 89-84.

“Our passes weren't crisp, we weren't getting up the floor (against Spring Arbor),” Hagen-Smith said. “We just didn't look sharp. We picked it up a little more in the second half. Fortunately, we were able to win pretty big despite how we played.

“We looked totally different (against St. Francis). It was intense and competitive and it was a great game for the fans to watch.”
