On Nov. 3, Gov. Bob Taft and Timothy A. Espich, director for the Governor's Office of Veteran's Affairs inducted 20 new members into the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame.

Local veteran David Barker was one of the new inductees. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1958 to 1961 and in the Navy Reserve from 1961 to 1968. He graduated from Morris Harvey College in 1971 and attended Marshall University's Graduate School from 1971 to 1973.

Currently, he is a state service officer with AMVETS traveling between Chillicothe, Portsmouth and Ironton. Barker has been active in veteran's organizations and helped organize seven different AMVETS Posts, two of which he served as commander.

He has served as commander at three different VFW Posts, a post commander of the American Legion, and as the VFW state POW/MIA chairman from 1984 to 1987.
