COLUMBUS - Sen. Tom Niehaus, chairman of the Senate Environment and Natural Resources Committee, tried to find common ground between industry representatives and environmentalists during a hearing on Senate Bill 193 Wednesday at the Statehouse.
The proposed legislation would open public lands to logging and oil and gas drilling.
Shawnee State Forest, the largest of the state forests with about 63,000 acres, would be susceptible to increased logging, according to Voices of the Forest founder Cheryl Carpenter.
