Despite the difficulties the Scioto County Board of Elections had during last week's election, board director Nancy Shephard said the new optical scan voting system will eventually work.

“I thought it would click right through,” she said. “But we had people working their first election, and some weren't used to dealing with the computer. Actually, once we got the memory card worked out, we moved right along.”

The results are usually known by 11 p.m. each year, but last week's results weren't released until about 4:30 a.m.

However, Shephard said there are no plans to scrap the system for a touch-screen system.
