Although candle light is one of the hallmarks of romance, the Ohio State Fire Marshal is warning that the common household decoration can lead to tragedy.

When left unattended, candles can lead to a deadly fire, said State Fire Marshal Stephen Woltz. His campaign for this year's National Fire Safety week is ”when you go out, blow out.“

”Many people enjoy burning candles in their homes, but it is important to remember how quickly an enjoyable moment can turn to tragedy when a lit candle is left unattended or placed too close to materials that can catch fire,“ Woltz said. ”A candle's open flame should be observable at all times by adults and kept out of the reach of children.“
