The Daily Times has learned the Minford Board of Education is set to hire Scott Cayton tonight as the Falcons' new girls basketball coach.

Information was obtained from tonight's agenda. The hiring is pending board approval.

"Pending the board vote, we're real excited with our girls basketball staff that we've been able to put together," Minford athletic director Jeff Pica said.

Cayton — a former head coach at Oak Hill — replaces Mark Chaney, who stepped down after the Falcons' 20-3 season last year and an appearance in the Division III Regional Semifinals. Joining Cayton on his staff is Rachel Coriell as varsity assistant.

From 1988-97, Cayton was the coach of the Lady Oaks and led the boys team from 1999-2000. During his coaching tenure, he was named SOC Coach of the Year on three occasions.

Coriell is also not a stranger to the SOC. From 2004-07, she was the head coach of the New Boston girls basketball team. She has won the SOC Coach of the Year honors twice.

Cayton, a social studies teacher at Oak Hill, and Coriell, a physical education teacher at New Boston, will stay at their current teaching locations while commuting to Minford.
