STAR breakfast set for this morning

Consumers at STAR Inc. will be serving breakfast from 7-9 a.m. today at their building at Gallia and Mabert. All proceeds benefit Saturday’s Alzheimer’s walk.

Scioto SWCD Art Contest set

The Scioto Soil and Water Conservation Water District is marking the beginning of the 2011-12 school year with the annual Fifth Grade Poster Contest. The theme this year is “Soil to Spoon!” and each entry should include the title of the theme. Prizes will be awarded to the top four posters, and entries must be submitted on or before Oct. 1. The contest is open to all fifth-grade students, and will be accepted from home school students and private and public schools. District staff is available to visit schools to present the contest and prepare students. Contact Kate Sowards, education coordinator, at 740-259-9231, or katesowards@sciotoswcd.org with questions, to schedule a presentation or for pick-up of submissions.

‘Get Out and Vote’ set for Sept. 22

A “Get Out and Vote” event will be held from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, at Tracy Park. Local bands Ghost Town Heroes and The Interns will perform. Volunteers will be on hand to help register new voters (anyone who is 18 or older by Nov. 8). There will be free T-shirts to the first 100 registered and  free food. This event is sponsored by the Scioto DD Levy Committee and paid for by donations.  Questions should be emailed to: sciotoddlevy@yahoo.com.
