Christian Riley's first half assist and second half goal led Northwest to a 2-0 win Thursday over host Clay.

"He played well and just played harder than normal," Mohawks coach Josh Keeney said of Riley. "He acted like he wanted it."

Riley set up German import Linus Schnack eight minutes into the contest for the first goal. In the second half, Riley took a pass from Till Mahl and deposited it behind Panther keeper Chase Hiles for the final tally of the night.

The scoring was beneficial to Chambers McClay, who stopped nine shots for the shutout win.

"Well-played game by our defense," Keeney said. "Give them credit tonight."

Northwest returns home Tuesday to host Waverly. Hiles also recorded nine saves for Clay.

Wheelersburg 4, South Webster 1

A hat trick by Keith Thurber and three assists by Hunter Killingsworth helped Wheelersburg to a 4-1 win over host South Webster.

"Thurmer's just a freshman and this is his best game of the season," Pirates coach Paul Boll said.

Braxton Jarvis added a goal and two assists in the win while Alex Dalton recorded six saves for the victory.

"This was probably our best passing game of the year," Boll said.

Wheelersburg travels Tuesday to Valley.

Volleyball

An overall team effort helped Waverly to a three-game sweep Thursday over host Oak HIll.

"We're doing a great job of having everybody being a contributor," Tigers coach Natalie Newton said about her team, who is now 5-0 overall and 4-0 in the SOC II.

Alex Roback led the charge with 14 kills and 9 digs.

"Alex has always been solid for us... she's all around a great athlete," Newton said.

Setting up Roback and the rest of her teammates was Kala Hall, who finished with 29 assists and 7 kills.

"(Hall) was a great attacker tonight," Newton said.

Also scoring for Waverly was Kayla Riffe with 21 points, 6 digs and 2 aces, Hannah Martin with 7 kills and 5 blocks, Bri Wiget with 8 kills and 2 aces, Kelsie Mays with 5 points and 4 digs and Lindsay Ward tallied 6 kills. The Tigers return to action tomorrow when they host a tri match with Clay and Chillicothe Southeastern.

Valley had no problems with host West in a three-game sweep Thursday.

Christina Shelton led the way for the Indians with 20 serving points and 5 aces.

Also scoring for Valley was Emily Richard with 12 points and 6 aces, Lauren Wolford with 16 kills and McKenzie Coriell with 9 points. The Indians (3-1, 3-1) travel Saturday to Unioto for a tournament.

Notre Dame def. Green 25-13, 25-12, 25-17

The Notre Dame Titans had no problems with visiting Green Thursday night with a three-game sweep over the Bobcats.

Erin Monroe and Libby Welsh each recorded seven kills in the contest while Katie Kayser added five assists. Welsh was perfect on all 17 serves.

Notre Dame (4-1, 3-1) hosts Ironton St. Joseph Monday.
