McDERMOTT — The Scioto County Sheriff’s Office and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation are investigating a homicide.

The body of Kenneth E. “Bub” Layne, 45, was found in his mobile home at 28 Rose Alley in McDermott. The home was surrounded by high weeds and grass growing up against the mobile home.

Scioto County Sheriff Marty V. Donini said about 8:36 a.m. Tuesday, the 911 center received a call for assistance at that address from Able Ambulance Company, which was at the residence to transport the victim to a scheduled appointment.

Deputies who responded determined Layne was dead and the scene was being treated as a homicide.

Scioto County Coroner Dr. Darren Adams Adams sent the body to the Montgomery County Forensic Center for an autopsy. The cause of death is not being released at this time since the investigation is ongoing.

Tuesday afternoon, Scioto County Sheriff’s Detective Denver Triggs and BCI&I investigators in hazmat suits and masks spent most of the day processing the scene, which had been cordoned off by yellow “crime scene” tape.

Donini said anyone with information about the case should call Triggs at 740-354-7566.
