The first game of the Luke Fickell era is off to a good start for Ohio State as the Buckeyes lead the Akron Zips 21-0 at half.

OSU's defense has looked sharp against the Akron offense holding them to 100 total yards in the first half.

The OSU offense has been led by Joe Bauserman on five of their six drives. Three of those drives were capped by Bauserman touchdowns.

The first score came four minutes into the first quarter when Bauserman scrambled on a broken play for a touchdown, making it 7-0 after the Drew Basil extra point.

OSU made it 14-0 when Bauserman connected with Jake Stoneburner for a 28-yard touchdown pass with 5:45 to play in the first quarter.

OSU's last score came on another Bauserman-to-Stoneburner TD pass from 11 yards out to make it 21-0.

The one sour note for OSU was redshirt freshman Rod Smith's fumble on the four-yard line during the Buckeyes' second drive.

Highly touted freshman quarterback Braxton Miller made an appearance for one unsuccessful drive and rushed for two yards and had a pass dropped.

Bauserman is 10-14 for 133 yards and two passing touchdowns at the half. He has one rushing touchdown.

Carlos Hyde leads the Buckeyes in rushing with 68 yards on 11 carries.

Rod Smith has 40 yards on seven carries and a fumble.

Jake Stoneburner leads OSU with three receptions for 48 yards and two touchdowns.

Verlon Reed has two catches for 48 yards.

Andrew Sweat has the tackling lead at the half with six and had a tip-toeing interception to set up OSU's third score.

Check back later in the day for the final recap and quotes from OSU coach Luke Fickell.
