Church plans community dinner, food pantry

Christ UMC will have a Community Dinner/Food Pantry on Sept. 17 at 5701 Gallia St., Sciotoville. Serving the meal begins at 11 a.m. and the Food Pantry opens at 11:30 a.m. The dinner is open to anyone who wishes to come and enjoy a meal and fellowship. To use the food pantry you must have a proof of address such as a current utility bill (no driver’s licenses or state id please).

SOMC to host drug addiction seminar

Southern Ohio Medical Center will offer the free educational seminar, “The Disease of Drug Addiction: Communication Strategies for the Healthcare Team” from noon to 3 p.m. or 6 to 9 p.m.  Sept. 8 at the Friends Community Center, 1202 18th Street, Portsmouth.

Keynote speakers are Ed Hughes, MPS, LICDC and Geneva Sanford, MSW, LSW, LICDC from The Counseling Center. The event is open to local healthcare providers and community members. Contact hours for nurses and social workers are available.
