Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital (OLBH) will offer free health testing and information from its booth at the Greenup County Fair.
Tuesday, Aug. 30, from 5 to 8 p.m., OLBH pulmonologist Michael Ehrie, M.D., and other hospital representatives will be at the OLBH booth to provide lung function screenings and discuss lung health. Thursday, Sept. 1 from 5 to 8 p.m., Bellefonte Primary Care at South Shore family physician Zachary Underwood, D.O., will be joined by members of his staff and the staff of OLBH’s Healthy Community Services in providing free health screenings. Screenings include checks for total and good cholesterol, blood sugar, blood pressure and hemoglobin levels.
From Tuesday, Aug. 30, through Saturday, Sept. 3, from 5 to 8 p.m., the OLBH booth at the fair will feature hospital representatives providing information on such services as Bellefonte Cosmetic and Reconstructive Surgery; the OLBH Women’s Center; the OLBH Sleep Lab; Bellefonte Physician Services; the hospital’s lung health program; Team Bellefonte, OLBH’s team that will participate in two upcoming walks supporting breast cancer research; and many more.

OLBH Smoking Cessation starts Monday
Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital (OLBH) is offering a free smoking cessation program for anyone wishing to stop smoking. The next session begins Monday, Aug. 29, with classes meeting Mondays at 6 p.m. at the OLBH Human Motion Vitality Center conference room in Russell, Ky.
The six-week program utilizes the proven Cooper-Clayton method to help participants become non-smokers. Sessions are free except for the cost of nicotine replacement or Zyban.

SOMC hosts Knit for Hope Aug. 30
Knitters and crocheters of all skill-levels are invited to an evening of fun, food and to support a good cause as part of the Knit for Hope group at Southern Ohio Medical Center. The group will meet from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30, at the SOMC Friends Community Center, 1202 18th St.
Patterns for lap quilts, throws, shawls, hats and caps will be available, though attendees are asked to bring their own needles and yarn (of any color). Finished products will be donated to breast cancer patients of the SOMC Cancer Center.

VA Medical Center Ribbon cutting is Monday
The Chillicothe VA Medical Center will be having a Ribbon Cutting Ceremonyat 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 29, for its newly renovated Community Living Center, Building 210, which will feature private rooms for all patients and more of a home/community atmosphere.
Red Cross announces classes
Ohio River Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross announces the September classes which will be held at the Chapter, 1801 Robinson Ave., Portsmouth.
Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED — This course is ideal for parents, grandparents, and expectant parents, and anyone desiring a working and thorough knowledge of CPR/AED/First Aid. Learn skills that could save your child’s life. The cost of the course is $110. This course will be offered on the following dates:
9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Sept 2;
9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Sept 16; and
9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept 24.
CPR for the Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Professional: This course is ideal for those going into the health care or medical profession. Class will be conducted on Friday, Sept. 23, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The cost of the course is $110.
Bloodborne Pathogens: Prevention of Disease Transmission may be added to any of the courses for an additional fee of $50. Those wanting this service must call specifically to request it. Bloodborne Pathogens will require approximately an additional 45 minutes beyond the stated course ending time.
