Eastern schools host open house

Eastern Local School District will have a open house Monday, Aug. 22. Matt Hines, middle and high school principal, Pam Brown, elementary principal, teachers and staff will be on hand to meet students and parents at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 22, in the cafeteria. Introductions of staff along with updated school information will be given at the beginning of the evening.

Elementary and middle school classrooms will be open for viewing. Sign-up information will be available for Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts and the Eastern Youth Soccer League. The Eastern P.T.O. will share information on projects scheduled for this school year.

The first day of school for students will be Wednesday, Aug. 24.

Sara Johnson, former director and currently chief curator of the Southern Ohio Museum, will launch a lunchtime conversation at noon Tuesday, Aug. 16, centered on a single painting by native artist Clarence Carter. “Ohio River Pilot,” a 1932 oil which depicts a riverboat pilot in the wheelhouse, has moved into the middle of the museum’s new historic photography exhibit, “Steamboats on the Ohio.” The event is free and open to the public. Visitors may bring their lunch.
