ODNR Division of Forestry hosts open house

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Forestry will host an open house from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 28, at Shawnee State Forest Headquarters [(740) 858-6685], 13291 U.S. 52, West Portsmouth, OH 45663. The presentation will be at 6 p.m. The public is invited to attend, ask questions, and submit written comments on state forest management plans at this open house.

Each year the ODNR Division of Forestry hosts open houses for interested citizens and neighbors, and displays planned forest management projects for the upcoming year. These proposed projects include timber harvesting, prescribed burning, timber cruising, treating invasive species, recreation trails, and facility maintenance.

Comment cards will be available during the Open Houses for visitors to provide feedback on state forest management. Open House information is currently posted to the Division’s website at www.ohiodnr.com/forestry.

Passport to Fishing Program is July 22

An Ohio Division of Wildlife Passport to Fishing program will be held Friday, July 22, from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Shawnee State Park Nature Center located at Turkey Creek Lake on State Route 125 in West Portsmouth.

The Passport to Fishing program is part of the Division’s Aquatic Education Program and is designed to teach children 4-17 the basics of fishing including casting, fishing knots and rigging, fish habitat and handling, fish identification and local information for anglers. Those 16 and older wishing to fish must have a current Ohio fishing license.

The program is free and open to the public. For further information or to register call the Scioto Soil and Water Conservation District at (740) 259-9231.

McKell library shows film

The staff of McKell Public Library, 22 McKell Lane, South Shore, Ky., will be showing “Cars” at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 14, in the library meeting room.

Also, they will be showing “Rango” at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 21, in the library meeting room.
