Carrie Coriell, a junior at Valley High School, placed third in the Division III regional girls shot put at Lancaster Fairfield Union High Scool to qualify her for the state track meet in Columbus.

"This is a big accomplishment," Valley Coach Jason Fell said. "She had a really good meet and she has worked really hard for this."

Going into the final throw, Coriell was in sixth place and needed to somehow get into the top three.

"She was determined to get in," Fell said. "She really wanted it."

Her final throw measured 36-feet, 8 3/4 to move her into third place and resevered her a spot in the state track meet on Friday at Ohio State University.

"Obviously we are thrilled," Fell said. "She's worked really hard for this and we are proud of her."

Also, Matt Mohr, from New Boston, finished in second place and the regional meet in Lancaster.

Mohr also qualified for the state meet in the long jump with a jump of 19-feet 11 inches.

He will jump at the Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium at OSU at 3 p.m. on Friday.

It's a shame your sports department didn't see that two athletes from Notre Dame are also going to the State finals.

Kyle Louderback in Discus and Adam Hadsell in the 800 run.
