The Portsmouth Trojans knocked off Westfall on Friday and will play today for the Division III boys baseball district crown.

Portsmouth defeated Westfall 6-2 at Unioto to advance.

"It was a well-pitched game by Josh Myers," Portsmouth Coach Fred Myers said. "We had some nice defense. Alex Coakley did a nice job at first base for us today."

Portsmouth got on the board early when Brennan Howard knocked in Brandon Wedebrook on a double. Howard then scored on a single by Jeremy Scott for the 2-0 lead.

Josh Myers helped his own cause when he knocked in Mitch Gower for the 3-0 lead.

The Trojans got two more insurance runs in the seventh when Aam Bray knocked in two runs to make the score 6-1.

"Westfall has a good program," Fred Myers said. "But we had some timely hitting. That big jump ahead with 2-0 in the first inning was a confidence builder for the kids."

PHS is now 11-8. They play against Piketon at 2 p.m. today in Chillicothe.
