A South Webster man has been sentenced to seven years in prison after pleading guilty to drug trafficking charges.

Scioto County Prosecutor Mark Kuhn said Monday Bobby D. Smith, 46, entered the plea on charges dating to August 2010.

Smith was indicted by a Scioto County grand jury after detectives from the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the Portsmouth Police Department Narcotics Unit, searched Smith’s residence on Bennett School House Road on Aug. 26, 2010. The warrant was based on the sheriff’s office use of a confidential informant, they say, who purchased narcotics from Smith earlier in the month.

During the execution of the search warrant, deputies seized more than $3,000 cash, firearms and narcotics, including oxycodone and Suboxone.

On May 4, 2011, Smith changed an earlier not guilty plea to one of guilty. Upon accepting the plea, Scioto County Common Pleas Court Judge William T. Marshall sentenced Smith to seven years in prison.

wow, i can't believe our town has turned into such a mess, i can remember being able to stay outside til you couldnt see the hand in front of your face and to think that the community is in such chaos and uproar really upsets me. as a native to this town, i know that this town really use to thrive on family living, and respect of others things, now days, its just a mess. i miss all the days when things made sense and we didnt have to worry about walking out our front doors.
