Kentucky Head Start plans enrollment

Northeast Head Start and Greenup County (Ky.) Preschool Programs are now recruiting children for an early enrollment for the 2008-2009 school years. Preregistration will be from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Friday at Argillite (Ky.) Head Start Center, (606) 4473-9689; Flatwoods (Ky.) Head Start Center, (606) 834-9312; McKell Head Start in South Shore, Ky., (606) 932-9467; Greysbranch Head Start Center, (606) 473-0767; and Wurtland (Ky.) Head Start, (606) 834-8070.

Applications will be accepted for 3- and 4-year-old children. Children must be 3 years of age on or before Oct. 1 to be eligible for enrollment next fall.

New Boston plans meetings

The New Boston Laws and Finance Committee will meet at 5 p.m. Monday in the Council Chambers of the New Boston Community Center, 3980 Rhodes Ave., New Boston, to review the final figures of the village for 2008.

Village of New Boston Council has set meetings for 6:30 p.m. on the first and third Tuesday of each month.

Porter's report is complete

The financial report of Porter Township for fiscal year ending Dec. 31, 2008, is now complete. The report is available for public inspection from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at the office of the fiscal officer, 1535 Dogwood Ridge Road, Wheelersburg.

Meeting is announced

The board of Scioto County Commissioners' organizational meeting will be at 9 a.m. Monday in the commissioners' conference, Room 107 of the Scioto County Courthouse, 602 Seventh St.

SCCTC board plans meeting

The Scioto County Career Technical Center's board will have its organizational and regular board meeting at 5 p.m. Jan. 15 at the main campus on Vern Riffe Drive, Lucasville.

Repair project is started

Safety concerns will require Ky. 503 in Greenup County to close to through traffic this week and next as work continues on an embankment failure.

Ky. 503 will be closed about halfway between Ky. 5 and Ky. 207 until at least Jan. 16, as contractors stabilize the embankment by “soil nailing” – a ground reinforcement process using long, thin pieces of metal to tie layers of rock and dirt together.

The road closure will affect all through traffic 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each work day. However, passage for school buses and emergency vehicles will be allowed. Signs alerting the traveling public will be posted.

Strategy for weight loss seminar

Strategies for achieving and sustaining weight loss will be the topic of Dr. Earl S. Perrido’s talk on Tuesday, Jan. 20, from 11 a.m. to noon at Best Care, 2159 Dogwood Ridge, Wheelersburg. The meeting will include a heart-healthy meal. Dr. Earl S. Perrigo is a professor of health science at Shawnee State University and affiliated with Kentucky Heart and Vascular Physicians, Kings Daughter Medical Center, Portsmouth.
