The Ironton Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a one-vehicle fatal crash that occurred Wednesday on Ohio 7 in Rome Township, Lawrence County.

Jessy Gilkerson, 29, of 187 Township Road 176, Crown City, Ohio, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lawrence County Coroner’s Office.

According to Lt. M.R. Gore of the Ironton Post of the OSHP, about 11:29 a.m. Wednesday, troopers were called to the scene of a one-car rollover crash on Ohio 7. Within minutes the status was updated by emergency personnel at the scene as a fatality.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 1999 GMC pickup truck driven by Gilkerson was traveling north on Ohio 7 and went out of control. According to the OSHP, the vehicle went off the right side of the road and struck a mailbox, then slid off the left side of the road and rolled over a steep bank and into high water. Troopers said Gilkerson, who was alone in the vehicle at the time, was ejected.

Gore said the crash remains under investigation.
